Stuart Anderson, 41, is a member of the market structure and electronic trading team within BlackRock’s trading and liquidity group, a position
he has held since 2012. He is also a director in the business.
After graduating from York University in 1995 with a BSc (Hons) in Politics
and Economics, he spent a number of years living and working in America.
He returned to the UK in 1999 and joined Bank of New York as part of
the Merrill Lynch Investment Managers’ derivatives team.
Over the following eight years he developed his understanding of the
derivatives market, before joining BlackRock at the beginning of 2008.
Joining as part of the derivatives solutions group during volatile mar-
ket conditions, Anderson was tasked with designing and implementing
bespoke portfolio solutions to address investment and liability challenges
through the use of option overlay strategies.
Having acquired knowledge of both the front and back office systems
for over the counter (OTC) and exchange-traded derivatives, Anderson
joined his current group, the electronic trading and market structure
group, as a director in 2012.
His role is to lead the modernisation and expansion of BlackRock’s
use of electronic trading to meet liquidity needs and adapt BlackRock’s
approach to market structure changes across all asset classes in Europe.
After the G20 commitment on OTC derivatives in 2009, Anderson was
involved in the fundamental changes that were developing across the
derivatives market from the earliest stage onwards.
Working closely with brokers, central clearing parties and regulators,
Anderson led the firm’s approach to central clearing of OTC derivatives in
Europe and beyond and has helped guide BlackRock clients through the
evolving regulatory minefield. n
