n THE TRADE HOT 100
Richard Evans has become one the most influential figures in European trading. The mechanical engineer graduate from Brunel has remark-
ably climbed the ranks, and in just seven years progressed from gradu-
ate trainee at Salomon Brothers in 1995, to head of program trading for
Europe at Citi.
In 2007, Evans rose to become Citi’s global head electronic execution
and program trading after spending 12 years at the US bank.
One of his most notable achievements at Citi was becoming a founding
member of the LSE-owned Turquoise trading platform in 2006.
Evans subsequently moved to Morgan Stanley in 2009 after an eight-
month period of ‘gardening leave’, where he ran the Delta-1 European
Equity Strategists group. He joined Barclays as Equities COO for the EMEA
region in 2012.
Two years later, he took on additionally responsibility and was named
COO of equities globally.
As Barclays continues to focus on its core business lines, the bank will
look to Evans to drive profits in the equity market.
It is a challenge that Evans would, most likely, not be afraid to take on.
It is also a challenge in which he feels fairly bullish on.
“The equity markets in Europe will be one of the most exciting and
investable areas over the coming years, with growth accelerating and
underpinned by a supportive monetary policy in the region,” he said. n
