Anthony Kirby is executive director and head of regulatory reform for Capital Markets and Asset Management in the Risk & Regulation divi-
sion of the Financial Services practice at EY.
Kirby has held one of the longest job titles in trading since 2008. Prior
to joining the consultancy group, Kirby worked at Accenture as head of
His expertise and responsibilities at EY cover risk management and
regulation, including Mifid II, Market Abuse Regulation (MAR), Dodd-
Frank, EMIR, CSD regulations, Know Your Customer (KYC) Anti-Money
Laundering (AML), Basel III and AIFMD/UCITS issues. You name it and
Kirby has covered it.
He received his M.Phil, MA and PhD from the University of Cambridge
in 1987 before going to work in financial services in senior client-facing
roles at Deutsche Börse, Merrill Lynch, SWIFT, Instinet, and Reuters.
His industry experience has seen him accumulate more than two dec-
ades of knowledge around the financial markets.
He is particularly interested in peer benchmarking and the impact of
regulatory measures on business and operating models and financial mar-
ket infrastructures as a whole.
Kirby has co-founded a range of industry groups, including the
Securities Market Practice Group (1998), Reference Data User Group
(2002), Mifid Joint Working Group (2005) and the Mifid Forum Best Ex &
Trading Group 2010.
Kirby has been a regular contributor to trading magazines, including
The Trade and The Trade Derivatives, helping guide buy-siders through the
sweeping OTC reforms. n
