When she’s not busy as an executive director at UBS, Sarah Hay spends her time taking part in triathlons and cycling races.
She competed in the Maratona des Dolomites this year and did a stage
of the Giro d’Italia and la vuelta. Hay is also targeting several other triath-
lons and the Maratona again in 2016.
She joined UBS in 2001 on the graduate training programme and until
2009 she worked in a variety of roles across technology and business
management. She was appointed COO for European client trading and
execution in 2009.
Hay was part of the team responsible for implementing the first phase
of straight through processing technology at UBS in Europe and later coor-
dinating projects around initial smart order routers pre Mifid back in 2007.
As part of her COO role she was heavily involved in setting up Markit
BOAT and Turquoise and was responsible for managing the UBS invest-
ment process in these initiatives.
Following maternity leave with her first child, Hay returned to a new
role within electronic trading heading up EMEA market structure and
In this role, she is responsible for advising clients and internal teams
on liquidity analysis, market structure and regulation and is heavily
involved with the development and coordination of the UBS global liquid-
ity strategy and developing the electronic platform and liquidity pools.
The 36-year old is actively involved in industry forums and initiatives
and a member of the Securities Trading Committee of the Association
for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) with responsibilities for equities
