He was previously head of LSEG’s corporate strategy for the five years
prior to his promotion when he was responsible for the group’s mergers
and acquisitions, and development of core growth initiatives.

joined in 2001 as chief information officer, taking responsibility for both its
technology and market data businesses, before becoming group director
of information services in 2009.

million under Lester’s control between 2001 and 2009, from £ 85 million to
He was very much involved in LSEG’s significant acquisition of
Turquoise, an equity trading platform, in 2010. Shortly afterwards, Lester
was appointed chief executive and chairman of Turquoise.
Lester has been heavily involved in acquisitions as a chairman of LSE’s
Turquoise, FTSE and Proquote units during his time at the business.
In an interview in 2011, Lester said the acquisition of the remaining
50% of FTSE would provide the exchange with full control and greater
flexibility to integrate the index company into its existing portfolio of busi-
nesses and future strategy.
More recently he said: “In almost 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to
contribute to the group’s global expansion and diversification.”
He is a keen sportsman, having finished the London Marathon in 2013
in under 3: 23. When not in the office, Lester is a competitive triathlete and
is training for Ironman Wales – a notably challenging triathlon. n
